Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following claims made by social media personality Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, Okay.ng reports.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Minister’s media aide, Babatunde Alao, Tunji-Ojo condemned the alleged misconduct and emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to upholding integrity, transparency, and accountability in the paramilitary services under its jurisdiction.

“The Ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said.

“The Minister has called for a special investigative team headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe these allegations and submit a comprehensive report.

“The Minister reassures the public that the investigation will be rigorous, transparent, and impartial, and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against any personnel found guilty.”

The investigation was prompted by allegations made in a viral video released by blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, in which Bobrisky claimed to have bribed NCoS officials and officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

In response, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed on Tuesday that the Commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, had set up a team to investigate the allegations.

Bobrisky was released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre on August 5, 2024, after serving a six-month sentence following his guilty plea to a naira abuse charge at a Federal High Court in Lagos.
