A yet-to-be-identified driver miraculously escaped death on Monday morning when a 40-foot container fell onto his Toyota Camry with registration number LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2, en route to Apapa Ports.

The accident, which occurred around 8 a.m., drew immediate attention and intervention from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). Eyewitnesses confirmed that the driver was promptly rescued from the wreckage.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention. Officers from the Kirikiri Police Division provided security during the rescue operation, ensuring a safe environment for emergency teams to work.

The damaged Toyota Camry was successfully removed from under the container, and by 9:30 a.m., efforts to evacuate the fallen container were ongoing. LASTMA officials managed the scene to alleviate traffic congestion and restore normalcy in the busy area.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety protocols, particularly regarding the proper securing of containers by truck drivers and owners.

He warned that negligence in securing containers poses severe risks to lives and property.

“LASTMA remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways and continues to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety,” Bakare-Oki said.
