A magistrate court in the Ogba area of Lagos has remanded Stella Nwadigbo, a teacher seen in a viral video assaulting a three-year-old pupil, at the Kirikiri correctional centre.

The Lagos state police command arraigned Nwadigbo on Thursday over charges of indecent treatment and assault of the child. The court ordered her remand pending her next court appearance scheduled for February 18.

The case stems from a widely circulated video showing Nwadigbo, a teacher at Christ Mitots School, located in the Ikorodu suburb of Lagos, violently smacking the toddler during a numeracy lesson.

The video sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning the teacher’s actions and calling for her immediate arrest.
