MTN Nigeria has responded positively to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approval of a 50% tariff adjustment for telecommunications operators.

In a statement signed by Uto Ukpanah, MTN Nigeria’s Company Secretary on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) platform, the company said that the adjustment will empower millions of people and businesses and contribute to the country’s overall economic development.

Reacting to the development, Karl Toriola, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and the NCC for their efforts in addressing the economic realities faced by the telecom industry.

He said: “We deeply appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the NCC and our industry bodies for their continued support in ensuring the telecoms sector remains sustainable. This tariff adjustment represents an important step towards addressing the impacts of the prevailing economic challenges on our business and industry. It will enable us to maintain the critical investments required to deliver reliable, high-quality services to Nigerians. We remain committed to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and driving inclusive growth for all stakeholders.”

Okay.ng recalls that the NCC had on Monday, January 20, 2025, announced the approval of tariff adjustment for telecommunications operators.

The regulator said the decision was made under Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003 (NCA), which empowers the NCC to regulate and approve tariff rates.
