Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the country’s 65th Independence Day celebrations on Friday. This trip coincides with President Tinubu’s own departure to Paris, France, for a brief working visit, where he will assess his administration’s midterm performance, and is expected to return to Nigeria in approximately two weeks.

Senegal’s Independence Day, celebrated annually on April 4th, marks the nation’s liberation from French colonial rule in 1960. The event is characterized by national pride, featuring ceremonies, parades, and cultural festivities.

Vice President Shettima’s attendance follows an invitation from Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, reflecting the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Senegal. The Independence Day celebrations will take place at the Place de la Nation in Dakar, with President Faye hosting Vice President Shettima and other international dignitaries. The Vice President is scheduled to return to Nigeria immediately after the one-day event.
