Tragedy struck an unauthorized mining site in Farin-Doki, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where a rockslide resulted in the deaths of two men. The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on Sunday. Following a distress call, police officers from the Erena Division and local residents conducted a rescue operation, recovering the bodies of the two victims, who were identified as natives of Kano State.

Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the deceased individuals had entered the mining site at night, presumably to engage in illegal mining activities. It was during these unauthorized operations that the fatal rockslide occurred. The remains of the victims were transported to a hospital in Zumba for further procedures.

The Niger State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The command reiterated its strong commitment to combating illegal mining operations, emphasizing that such activities pose a significant threat to public safety and the security of the state.

The police urged residents to refrain from engaging in illegal mining and to report any such activities to the authorities. This incident underscores the dangers associated with unauthorized mining and the need for stricter enforcement to prevent further loss of life.
