Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has publicly dismissed circulating rumors suggesting he intends to seek the presidency in 2027 against President Bola Tinubu.

Speculation had emerged that Wike might contest if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zones its presidential ticket to the South.

In a candid interview with BBC News Pidgin on Saturday, the former Rivers State governor clarified his stance: “I will not contest. Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” he stated firmly, emphasizing his loyalty to President Tinubu.

When pressed on whether he believes Tinubu will secure victory in the 2027 elections, Wike expressed confidence, noting the opposition lacks a formidable challenger. “They said they will zone it to the South, let them zone first. When we get to the bridge, we will know how to cross it,” he added.

Wike’s remarks come amid ongoing political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 polls, underscoring his commitment to the current administration and rejecting any notion of rivalry with the president.
