Elon Musk Expresses Regret Over Harsh Criticism of Donald Trump Amid Spending Bill Dispute

Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday walked back some of his recent criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump, following a public falling-out between the former allies that captivated political and tech circles last week.

Okay.ng reports that Musk, who served as a presidential advisor and was a major financial supporter of the Republican Party during the last election, acknowledged on his platform X that he may have gone too far in his remarks.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote.

The apology marks a significant shift in tone from Musk, who had publicly denounced Trump’s controversial “big, beautiful” spending bill, currently under debate in Congress. Musk had labeled the legislation fiscally irresponsible, sparking outrage from Trump and prompting speculation about political retribution.

The rift intensified when some anti-bill lawmakers urged Musk to use his vast resources to fund primary challengers against Republican members who supported the legislation — a call that appeared to gain traction online and in conservative circles.

In response, Trump issued a stern warning during an interview with NBC News on Saturday, cautioning Musk against interfering in Republican primaries.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Trump said, accusing Musk of being “disrespectful” but stopping short of detailing what actions he might take.
