The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the suspension of its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr. Usani Usani, following allegations of misconduct that the party described as harmful to its unity and internal progress.

According to a statement released on Monday in Abuja by the Cross River State Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, the suspension took immediate effect after the State Working Committee (SWC) held a meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Okay News reports that the party leadership in Cross River State accused Usani of engaging in actions that violate the ADC Constitution, including anti-party activities and insubordination to constituted authorities.

Otudor explained that multiple petitions were reviewed during the meeting, which led to the decision to suspend the South-South Vice Chairman pending a formal investigation by higher party organs.

“In accordance with the party’s constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr. Usani’s suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of a formal investigation by the relevant party organs,” the statement read.

The committee also criticized the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, claiming that her emergence lacked consultation with the Cross River leadership.

Otudor alleged that Wayas had demonstrated “little engagement” with the state chapter since assuming office and questioned her commitment to the party’s unity in the South-South region.

“Consequently, the SWC urged the National Leadership to review her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy individual from Cross River State with a verifiable record of commitment to the ideals of the ADC,” he said.

In addition, the Cross River ADC expressed concern over certain individuals within the Coalition Movement who, despite pledging allegiance to the party, had failed to complete their membership registration.

The statement warned that the party would not condone dual membership or allow its platform to be exploited by politicians pursuing conflicting political interests.

“All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to complete their registration at their respective ward levels within seven days, ending Saturday, October 25, 2025, or risk exclusion from leadership and decision-making processes within the party,” the committee cautioned.

Reaffirming its loyalty to the national leadership, the Cross River ADC pledged continued dedication to promoting credible leadership and a people-focused political movement in the South-South region.

“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and steadfast as the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course,” the statement concluded.
