The African Action Congress (AAC) has rejected the results of the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, citing widespread irregularities, vote buying, and procedural violations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the party’s Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, stated that credible reports from its agents and independent observers across the state revealed several breaches that undermined the transparency of the poll.
“The African Action Congress wishes to express its profound dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the Anambra State governorship election held on November 8, 2025,” the statement read.
According to Nwokeanochie, the election was marred by irregularities that compromised the secrecy of the ballot and the integrity of the entire process. “Our observations, as well as credible reports received from party agents and independent monitors across the state, indicate that the process was marred by widespread irregularities and violations of established electoral procedures,” he said.
The party called for a full-scale, transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant authorities to address what it described as “serious breaches of electoral integrity.”
Okay News reports that the AAC governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, had earlier criticized the election process, alleging that large-scale vote buying occurred across polling units.
Nwokeanochie reaffirmed that the AAC remains committed to democracy, justice, and accountability, pledging to pursue lawful means to ensure that the will of Anambra voters is respected.
“The AAC firmly maintains that elections must be transparent, credible, and reflective of the genuine will of the people,” he stated. “The anomalies witnessed during this exercise fall short of these democratic standards and have eroded public confidence in the process.”
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, had earlier declared Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner of the election after he secured 422,664 votes, defeating Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.
Sixteen political parties contested in the election, with a total of 2,788,864 registered voters in the state. INEC recorded 598,229 accredited voters and 595,298 valid votes, while 11,244 votes were rejected. Soludo won in all 21 local government areas of the state.
