Okay News reports that the Federal Ministry of Education has issued a strong denial of a viral school closure notice circulating across social media, warning Nigerians that no directive has been given to shut schools nationwide from November 24, 2025. The Ministry described the rumour as false, misleading, and entirely unauthorised.

In a statement released on November 22, 2025, the Ministry said the alleged school closure notice did not originate from the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency. Officials emphasised that the message was fabricated and should be disregarded by the public.

The Ministry urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified updates from official channels. These include the Federal Government, the Federal Ministry of Education, state governments, state education ministries, and Nigeria’s recognised security agencies. This clarification comes as the fake school closure notice continues to spread widely across online platforms, creating unnecessary anxiety among parents and students.

According to the statement, any announcement or advisory regarding academic calendars or nationwide directives must come from authorised institutions. The Ministry stressed that the public should not act on unverified claims, especially those disseminated through anonymous social media accounts that frequently push false information, including fabricated school closure notices.

The Ministry’s spokesperson noted that the spread of such misinformation undermines public trust and can disrupt academic operations. She added that Nigerians must exercise caution when encountering rapid viral posts, particularly during periods of heightened public alert, as fake school closure notices tend to circulate more easily.

Officials also urged the public to cultivate responsible information-sharing habits. Before forwarding or reposting messages, individuals are encouraged to verify the content through official government channels—a step the Ministry says would greatly reduce the impact of misleading claims such as the recent school closure notice.

Okay News reports that the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely and accurate updates on school operations nationwide. It assured parents, students, and school administrators that any legitimate changes to academic schedules will be released through recognised communication platforms.

Looking ahead, the Ministry said it will continue strengthening public communication systems to counter misinformation. This includes improved digital engagement and faster dissemination of verified statements to prevent the recurrence of viral falsehoods such as the fabricated school closure notice.
