The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to strengthening its collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps in Borno State, emphasising that the safety and welfare of corps members will continue to be treated as a priority.

Okay News reports that this assurance was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, who posted the update on the Nigerian Army official X social media handle on Friday.

The statement explained that Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar gave the assurance when the Borno State National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, led the management team of the scheme on a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State in North East Nigeria.

During the meeting with the delegation, the Theatre Commander highlighted the strategic importance of the National Youth Service Corps to the unity, integration, and development of Nigeria. He praised the consistent cooperation that has existed between the security outfit and the scheme over the years.

He particularly noted that the recent reopening and successful operation of National Youth Service Corps orientation camps across Borno State clearly reflects the remarkable improvement in the security situation in the region. According to him, the return of the orientation programme is not only a symbolic victory, but also an indication of renewed confidence in the stability of the state.

Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar was quoted as saying, “The successful return of National Youth Service Corps orientation camps in the state is an indication of the significant improvement in the security situation in Borno. The command remains steadfast in supporting National Youth Service Corps activities, particularly in guaranteeing the safety and welfare of corps members. This assurance is important ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.”

In his remarks, the Borno State National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, expressed deep gratitude for the warm reception and the steady support that the scheme has received from the leadership of Operation Hadin Kai. He stated that one of the purposes of the visit was to formally acquaint himself with the theatre commander following his assumption of office in April 2025.

He recalled how the scheme had been compelled to suspend its operations in Borno State in previous years due to heightened insurgency activities. Bello explained that the full return of the National Youth Service Corps to the state was made possible by years of improved security coordination, troop deployments, and successful counter-terrorism operations.

While describing the National Youth Service Corps as a “baby of the Nigerian Army,” Bello appealed for continuous collaboration to ensure maximum protection for corps members, especially those deployed to remote areas within the state.

The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ register, the presentation of a souvenir by the Theatre Commander to the National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, and a group photograph to commemorate the engagement.
