Chelsea’s winless run continued in the Champions League as they fell 2–1 to Atalanta in Bergamo, despite taking the lead in the first half.
Joao Pedro opened the scoring against the run of play, sliding in to convert Reece James’s delivery. The goal was initially ruled out for offside but eventually awarded after a lengthy VAR review.
Chelsea had opportunities to extend their advantage early in the second half, but Atalanta capitalised instead. Former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca headed in an equaliser ten minutes after the restart, punishing sloppy marking from the Blues.
The decisive moment came seven minutes from time when Charles De Ketelaere, Atalanta’s standout performer on the night, found space on the edge of the box and fired in a deflected effort off Marc Cucurella to make it 2–1.
Late chances from Garnacho, James, and Joao Pedro were denied by goalkeeper Carnesecchi as Chelsea pushed for a leveller deep into stoppage time.
The defeat leaves Enzo Maresca’s side without a win in four matches across all competitions, following draws with Arsenal and Bournemouth and a loss to Leeds since their impressive victory over Barcelona.
