President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm two new chief executives for Nigeria’s key petroleum regulators following the resignation of Farouk Ahmed, head of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and Gbenga Komolafe, chief executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.

Okay News reports that both officials were appointed in 2021 by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari under the Petroleum Industry Act, which established the two agencies to oversee the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the oil and gas industry.

In separate letters sent to the senate, President Tinubu named Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan as the new chief executive of the NUPRC and Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as the new chief executive of the NMDPRA, urging lawmakers to process the confirmations without delay.
