Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State in southwestern Nigeria has assented to the state’s 2026 appropriation bill totalling ₦723 billion, marking the final budget of his first term in office.

Okay News reports that the signing ceremony took place in Osogbo, the state capital, attended by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and members of the State Executive Council.

The governor described the budget as a tool to consolidate ongoing projects and expand service delivery in line with his administration’s five-point development agenda.

Adeleke highlighted achievements over the past three years, including completion of abandoned infrastructure, settlement of pension and salary arrears, and enhanced workers’ welfare.

He noted that billions of naira have been paid toward inherited debts, with promotions and allowances addressed after years of neglect.

The administration has also significantly reduced Osun’s debt profile by 43 per cent between 2022 and 2025.

Originally presented at ₦705 billion in November, the budget was revised upward to ₦723 billion and passed by the Osun State House of Assembly on December 23.

This adjustment reflects legislative inputs aimed at prioritising infrastructure, welfare, and new developmental initiatives.

The signing underscores efforts to sustain gains in governance while laying foundations for future projects ahead of the term’s conclusion.

Osun’s current debt stands at ₦83.3 billion, contributing to Nigeria’s overall state and FCT debt of ₦3.87 trillion as of Q1 2025.
