Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued eight civilians, including six adults and two minors, after suspected militants intercepted a commercial boat and abducted passengers along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways.
The development was contained in a statement by Yemi Sokoya, the Assistant Army Public Relations Officer, made available to Okay News on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the troops swiftly deployed after receiving credible intelligence, blocking escape routes and dominating the waterways in pursuit of the attackers. Under pressure from the advancing soldiers, the militants abandoned the victims at the Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into the creeks toward the high sea, allowing the civilians to be safely recovered without casualties.
The rescued victims were taken to the brigade’s location for documentation before being released, while troops continued patrols to prevent further criminal activity.
The Commander of 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General P. O. Alimikhena, praised the troops for their professionalism and thanked local communities for timely intelligence, reassuring the public of sustained aggressive patrols to deny criminals freedom of action in the area.
