The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on Friday, dismissed an insinuation that President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaign was largely funded by the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

He said he was not aware the former Governor of Rivers State brought huge funds to the campaign but explained that Amaechi was extremely hard working and instrumental to the victory of the APC at the 2015 polls.

Oyegun was reacting on We FM 106.5 radio station Abuja to a question by a caller who alleged that 80 percent of Buhari’s funds came from Amaechi.

The caller while crediting a statement to the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El – Rufai was asking the APC Chairman to explain to Nigerians how Amaechi got the money to support Buhari’s campaign.

“I’m not aware of the statement by the Kaduna Governor, I know him very well and I will be very shocked if he made a statement like that.

“I know Amaechi was very vigorous in the campaigns and that was obvious because he made a bold move that involved a lot of risks coming away as Governor of the PDP coming into the APC.

“He was a driven person, APC must win, he was driven, he worked extremely hard, he was all over the country physically, that I know but about, which sum and the rest, whether he brought money or didn’t bring money, I am not aware of that, but I know he worked extremely hard and he was one of the factors in the victory of the APC,“ he said.

Oyegun further explained that the Deregulation of the downstream sector was aimed at stimulating competition in the industry to beat down the price of petrol.

“It will also allow competition to operate, if you are able to import cheaper and you sell at the lower level as we hear a few practitioners of the industry are already deciding to do. It is a band and 145 is only the upper limit,“ Oyegun added.
