The #BringBackOurGirls group has stated that the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls, Amina Ali and Serah Luka, had renewed its hope on the rescue of not only the Chibok girls but also other girls who were abducted by the Boko Haram sect.
Speaking during the group’s sit-out, a member of the group, Abubakar Yusuf, stated that the rescue had also gingered the group to continue in its advocacy for the safe return of the girls.
Yusuf reminded Nigerians who had rejoiced with them when the Chibok girls were rescued to continue in one way or another to remind government that 218 Chibok school girls are still in the hands of their abductors waiting patiently to be rescued.
“The rescue of these girls is just a reminder that we still have a long way to go. We still have to be the voice of 218 girls who are yet to be rescued. Please many Nigerians who had rejoiced with us should join hands and help us still stand for the other girls,” he said.
While pledging to continually be the voice of the abducted girls, the group had called on the government to adopt the structured process of verifying rescued persons as outlined in the Verification, Authentication and Reintegration System (VARS).
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Sesugh Akume, it stated that the VARS will help to accurately identify, rehabilitate, resettle and reintegrate recovered citizens of the country.
The group while adding that the VARS was designed by the BBOG Movement and had been handed to the federal government more than one year ago, urged them to use it as rehabilitating victims of abduction requires a systematic process and programmes.
“It is with this in mind that we seize this opportunity to once again advice our federal government and military to adopt the structured process of verifying rescued persons as outlined in the Verification, Authentication and Reintegration System (VARS).
“This tool which will help to accurately identify, rehabilitate, resettle and reintegrate recovered citizens was designed by our movement and handed to the federal government more than one year ago,” it said.
