Abia Governor Unveils Two United Nigeria Airlines Aircraft

LAGOS, Nigeria: The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, unveiled two newly acquired Boeing 737-800NG aircraft belonging to United Nigeria Airlines at Nesto Aviation Services in Ikeja, on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Okay News reports that Otti commended the Chairman and Founder of United Nigeria Airlines, Obiora Okonkwo, for naming the aircraft after the late author Chinua Achebe and the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe.

“For remembering to honour our people, you will be honoured,” Otti said. Otti commended an initiative to establish an aircraft leasing company to strengthen the capacity of local airlines. “What you have done is to help local airlines operate under the strong support of the government. I want to commend and encourage you for that,” he said.

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, outlined the Federal Government aviation reform agenda and praised the commitment of the Abia State government to aviation infrastructure. Keyamo stated that Otti met with Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, to advocate for a full airport in Abia State instead of an airstrip, with the state providing counterpart funding.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, stated that United Nigeria Airlines was on course to become one of the largest airlines in West Africa. Alfred Achebe expressed appreciation to the airline for the recognition.
