By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has expressed joy following the Supreme Court’s unanimous judgment affirming his victory in the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

The five-member panel, led by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, dismissed the appeal filed by Oladipupo Adebutu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that Adebutu and his party failed to prove their case.

In a statement posted on his official X account, Governor Abiodun, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), thanked the people of Ogun State and members of the APC for their unwavering support throughout the legal process.

“I am profoundly grateful to the incredible people of Ogun State, our extraordinary political party, the All Progressives Congress, @OfficialAPCNg, and its dedicated members, as well as other prominent individuals who have supported us unwaveringly,” Abiodun stated in his post.

The governor acknowledged the numerous stages of legal battles that followed his election last year and expressed satisfaction with the Supreme Court’s validation of his triumph.

“This confirmation provides undeniable evidence that the citizens of Ogun State bestowed this mandate upon us, entrusting us with the responsibility of creating a more prosperous and harmonious society for all. We embrace this weighty duty and vow to fulfill it diligently,” he added.
