Adamawa Governor Orders Defecting Appointees to Resign Within 48 Hours or Forfeit Benefits

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

YOLA, Nigeria — Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has issued a sweeping administrative directive ordering all political office holders in his administration who have defected or declared allegiance to rival political parties to resign their appointments immediately.

The ultimatum was made public on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, through an official statehouse press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Humwashi Wonosikou.

Okay News reports that the Governor’s directive gives all affected appointees a strict 48-hour window to submit their formal letters of resignation to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The sudden political purge arrives amid shifting party alignments in the region, as political actors begin positioning themselves ahead of the next major electoral cycle.

Governor Fintiri defended the tough stance as a necessary step to maintain institutional discipline, government loyalty, and public service integrity. He warned that continued service by individuals aligned with opposition platforms poses an immediate risk of administrative sabotage, policy obstruction, and intelligence leaks. “This is a clear message that public office is held in trust and must align with the vision, agenda, and mandate of the administration,” Fintiri stated, asserting that his cabinet will not condone divided loyalties.

To enforce absolute compliance, the state government has mandated the Office of the SSG and the Office of the Head of Service to immediately compile and verify a comprehensive tracker of all political appointees suspected of cross-carpeting. The administration warned that any official who fails to voluntary resign before the 48-hour deadline lapses will face immediate termination, the absolute stoppage of salaries and entitlements, and total forfeiture of all accumulated exit benefits.
