Sanwo-Olu Endorses Hamzat and Sonayon-James Joint APC Ticket for 2027

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

LAGOS, Nigeria — Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially endorsed his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and running mate Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the All Progressives Congress (APC) joint ticket to succeed his administration in the 2027 governorship election.

The high-profile endorsement was formalized at the Lagos House in Marina following a closed-door alignment meeting with the state’s highest political stakeholders.

Okay News reports that the decision represents a unified transition strategy backed by the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), including party stalwarts Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon. The unveiling of the ticket comes directly on the heels of extensive regional consultations, including high-level strategy sessions between Dr. Hamzat and the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Praising his deputy’s readiness and deep institutional knowledge, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described Hamzat as a dedicated public servant and a steadfast advocate for progress. “The true test of sustainable governance is the ability to pass the baton to proven hands, guided by minds that see the future clearly,” Sanwo-Olu asserted. He noted that Hamzat is uniquely prepared to sustain the state’s development trajectory, famously adding, “Mr. Deputy Governor is a man who knows where all the rooms in the house are.”

The Governor also strongly commended the selection of Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the deputy governorship candidate, highlighting her background as a sustainability professional and grassroots champion. Sanwo-Olu stated that the joint ticket balances experience with forward-looking energy, reflecting the diversity and aspirations of Lagosians. He credited President Bola Tinubu for laying the structural foundation of progressive governance in Lagos and called on all party faithful and residents to rally behind the team to advance the shared mission of a greater state.
