ADC Says South-East Will Not Vote for Tinubu in 2027

ENUGU, Nigeria — The African Democratic Congress in Enugu State declared on May 24, 2026, that the South-East geopolitical zone will not vote for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Okay News reports that the Enugu State Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Adolphus Ude, issued a statement dismissing comments made by Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, regarding federal infrastructure projects. Umahi allegedly stated during an inspection in Ebonyi State that the region could lose federal funding if it failed to vote for the president.

Ude, a former founding Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Enugu State, accused the minister of attempting to blackmail and intimidate the region. He stated that the people of the region are politically independent and cannot be coerced into voting against their will.

“Umahi should mention the major infrastructure projects being executed by the Tinubu government in the South-East and state their locations and value,” Ude said. He stated that the region was excluded from flagship projects including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Highway.

“The long-awaited dredging of the River Niger is not ongoing, and the South-East still has no rail line. So, what projects are being threatened?” Ude said. He stated that the region has only five ministers in the Federal Executive Council, with three serving as ministers of state.

Ude stated that passport issuing machines had been deactivated across the South-East, forcing residents to travel to Abuja for international passports. He noted that the president lost in all five states of the region during the 2023 presidential election.
