Aliko Dangote Immortalises Late Herbert Wigwe with Refinery Road Naming

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Nigerian billionaire and founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has honoured the memory of the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, by naming a major road leading to his oil refinery after him.

Dangote made the announcement during a tribute to Wigwe by professionals on Monday, stating, “To immortalize my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name a major refinery and petrochemical road, out of the 120 kilometers, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe.'”

Herbert Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 10, 2024.

The Eurocopter EC130 helicopter, carrying all six passengers, crashed near the Nevada border around 10 pm local time on Friday, which was 7 am on Saturday in Nigeria.
