The Kogi State Government has announced the successful rescue of the remaining eight students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, who were kidnapped by gunmen on May 9, 2024.

According to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the rescue operation was made possible through the efforts of President Bola Tinubu, who mobilized resources to ensure the safe rescue of the students.

The Kogi State Government expressed gratitude to the President, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Riba, and the various security agencies involved in the operation, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and Department of State Services (DSS).

The local hunters and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were also commended for their role in synergizing with other security agencies to ensure the successful rescue of the students.

The students were kidnapped by gunmen who invaded the university around 9 pm on May 9, 2024, while they were preparing for their examinations. Two of the students were earlier killed by the kidnappers, while 14 others were rescued by security operatives three days after the abduction.

With the latest rescue, all the abducted students have now been reunited with their families. The Kogi State Government has assured that efforts are being made to ensure the safety of all residents in the state.
