Awka, Anambra State, NIGERIA — Governor Charles Soludo has announced a partnership between the Anambra State Government and Flutterwave, the African fintech giant, aimed at formalizing and expanding the state’s e-commerce ecosystem.
The collaboration with Flutterwave—led by CEO Gbenga Agboola—is designed to integrate Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the state into the global digital marketplace.
Okay News reports that the initiative will specifically target traders in the Onitsha Main Market, artisans in Nnewi, and tech talents in Awka, providing them with secure and seamless digital payment rails.
Governor Soludo highlighted that the partnership will focus on four key areas:
Payment Digitalization: Simplifying how small businesses receive payments both locally and internationally.
Onboarding: Assisting traditional traders in moving their storefronts to online platforms.
Logistics Integration: Improving the synergy between payment systems and delivery logistics.
Global Competition: Equipping local entrepreneurs with the tools needed to compete in the global marketplace.
Addressing young entrepreneurs in the state, the Governor stated that the government is “building the rails” to support their innovation. He also issued a call to Ndi Anambra in the diaspora, declaring that the state is now fully “open for digital business.”
This move follows Anambra’s recent efforts to eliminate “right-of-way” charges for fiber optic cables, a policy that has boosted internet penetration in the state. By partnering with a “global rated innovator” like Flutterwave, the Soludo administration said it is positioning Anambra as a leading tech hub in South-East Nigeria.
