State House, Abuja, NIGERIA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of new appointments and tenure renewals across several parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Education.
The changes affect the National Examination Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Library of Nigeria, and the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak Shendam.
In a statement made available to Okay News on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu was named Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO.
Prof. Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and a retired professor from Obafemi Awolowo University, brings extensive experience in educational administration to the role. Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi remains the Council’s Registrar.
For the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the President appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman. Prof. Salako is the immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR), where he served from 2016 to 2024. His appointment follows the recent reappointment of Prof. Idris M. Bugaje as the Board’s Executive Secretary for a final five-year term.
The President also addressed leadership at the National Library and Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam.
Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has secured a second and final five-year term as the Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria. Since her initial appointment in 2021, Prof. Anunobi has been credited with digitizing national heritage through the National Virtual Library of Nigeria and pushing for the completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja.
In Plateau State, Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed as the new Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam for a single term of five years. Dr. Binfa, a PhD holder in Mechanical Engineering, succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March. Prior to this, Dr. Binfa served as the Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.
The appointments are said to be a part of the administration’s broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s educational institutions as technology-driven hubs of knowledge. The President expressed confidence that these academic leaders would drive the Renewed Hope Agenda by ensuring institutional stability and executing long-term strategic plans within their respective agencies.
