Apapa Appeals to Supreme Court Over Labour Party Leadership Crisis

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The leadership dispute within the opposition Labour Party (LP) continues to escalate as Lamidi Apapa has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, challenging the Court of Appeal’s decision to reinstate Julius Abure as the national chairman of the party.

Addressing the press in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Abayomi Arabambi, the national publicity secretary of the party aligned with Apapa, revealed that a stay-of-execution motion had been secured pending the outcome of the appeal at the apex court.

The Appeal Court in Abuja had on March 6, overturned the High Court’s ruling and reinstated Julius Abure as the national chairman, citing jurisdictional errors in the initial judgment. However, Arabambi criticized the decision, alleging irregularities and asserting that the LP had filed an appeal with the Supreme Court.

Arabambi further accused Abure of forgery and criminal activities, referencing allegations of forging judicial seals and documents. He highlighted previous legal proceedings that dismissed Abure’s objections to the court’s jurisdiction, emphasizing the ongoing legal battle’s complexity.

Describing the Appeal Court’s judgment as “perverse,” Arabambi confirmed that an immediate appeal had been lodged with the Supreme Court on multiple grounds. He asserted that the motion for stay of execution effectively halts the enforcement of the Appeal Court’s ruling pending the Supreme Court’s deliberation.
