Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria — Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling political party, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for visiting Plateau State following the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area in north central Nigeria.
Okay News reports that the visit was described by the party chairman as a strong expression of leadership and national solidarity at a time when communities in Plateau State are mourning the loss of lives. The President met with the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, alongside former governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth representatives, women’s groups, and other stakeholders.
During the visit, Professor Yilwatda condemned the killings, calling them a direct threat to peace and unity in the state. He said the repeated attacks should no longer be treated as routine incidents and urged authorities to adopt coordinated measures to prevent further violence.
In a statement signed by Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the APC National Chairman on Media and Communications Strategy, the party leader stressed the need for community vigilance. He noted that those responsible for the violence may be individuals operating within or near affected communities and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
Professor Yilwatda also called on security agencies to modernise their approach, recommending intelligence-driven operations supported by surveillance technology such as drones, tracking systems, and artificial intelligence-based monitoring tools. He argued that evolving threats require more advanced responses to protect lives and property.
The APC chairman warned that persistent insecurity is damaging Plateau State’s economic prospects. He said the state, known for tourism sites, agricultural potential, and cultural attractions, risks losing investment opportunities if violence continues.
He urged a collective approach involving traditional institutions, religious leaders, youth groups, security agencies, and political actors to restore stability. During the visit, President Tinubu and accompanying officials also met families affected by the attack, offering condolences and assurances of federal government support.
The APC stated that the visit signals renewed commitment by the federal government of Nigeria to pursue lasting peace in Plateau State. The party added that broader consultations are expected in the coming days to develop long-term solutions aimed at preventing further violence.
