APC Governorship Candidate in Kano, Gawuna Accepts Supreme Court Verdict as God’s Decision

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, has expressed his acceptance of the Supreme Court judgment on the governorship election as the divine will of God.

Gawuna shared his perspective during an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday.

The Supreme Court recently affirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

This decision followed a series of legal battles between Gawuna, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the lower courts after the March 2023 governorship election.

In response to the Supreme Court verdict, Gawuna emphasized that he accepts the judgment as God’s decision and urged his supporters to do the same.

He conveyed a message of calm and acceptance, encouraging everyone to recognize the higher design and wisdom of Allah.

“This judgment is God’s decision, and we have accepted it. As we prayed that if it is good for us, let Him grant us from His bounty, and if it is otherwise, he would replace it with something better,” Gawuna stated.

He called on supporters to remain peaceful, obedient, and focused on moral values, emphasizing the need for prayers for peace in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.

Gawuna extended good wishes to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, acknowledging him as the duly elected governor affirmed by the Supreme Court.

He stressed the importance of leaders, from the President to local councilors, being just and called for continuous prayers for the well-being and prosperity of the state and the nation.

In his concluding remarks, Gawuna reassured the public that, as a devout believer in the Islamic way of life, he remains optimistic about the future and expressed confidence in Allah’s guidance for the people of Kano State.
