Appeal Court Upholds Uzodinma’s Victory in Imo Governorship Election

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and Allied Peoples Movement against the election of Hope Uzodinma as the Governor of Imo State. The court held that the appeals lacked merit and resolved all issues in favor of the respondents.

The appellants had challenged the decision of the Imo State tribunal, which affirmed Uzodinma’s election, citing non-compliance with the Electoral Act and alleging that Uzodinma’s WAEC certificate was forged. However, the court found that the appellants failed to prove their allegations and upheld Uzodinma’s qualification and election victory.

The three-man panel led by Justice Bitrus Sanga delivered the judgment, dismissing the appeals and affirming Uzodinma’s position as the duly elected Governor of Imo State. This decision marks a significant milestone in the protracted legal battle over the Imo State governorship election.
