Akure, Nigeria – Suspected armed attackers have killed a female poultry farm owner and her daughter in the Igushi community, located near Akure, the capital of Ondo State in south-western Nigeria. The attackers also abducted several workers during the violent incident, which took place on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
According to local residents, about five armed men gained entry into the agricultural facility by climbing over the perimeter fence. After fatally shooting the farm owner and her daughter, the attackers took three workers away from the premises.
The Ondo State Police Command, working together with the regional South West Security Network, locally known as Amotekun, responded quickly to distress calls from the community. As Okay News reports, the joint security team pursued the attackers into the surrounding areas and successfully rescued some of the kidnapped victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the rescue operation and the tragic deaths in an official statement.
“The Ondo State Police Command strongly condemns the heinous, violent incident at Igushin via Ala, Akure, which led to the tragic loss of two innocent lives. While two victims were successfully rescued through a swift and coordinated operation, the Command expresses deep sorrow over the unfortunate deaths recorded,” Jimoh stated.
Jimoh assured the public that security forces have deployed adequate measures to protect lives and property, and they are actively working to arrest the perpetrators. He urged residents to remain alert and share any useful information with law enforcement. This incident adds to growing concerns about security in the rural farming communities surrounding Akure, where residents have continuously requested increased police protection.
