LAGOS, Nigeria: Paul Ibe media aide to former Nigeria Vice President Atiku Abubakar, called on the Department of State Services to invite Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho for questioning regarding the abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Okay News reports that Paul Ibe published a statement on the social media platform X requesting security agencies obtain information from Sunday Igboho to secure the release of the victims.
The request follows a meeting on Wednesday at an Ibadan residence where Sunday Igboho told members of the National Association of Nigerian Students that he knew the politicians backing the kidnappers and threatened to reveal their identities.
“Since Sunday Igboho claims to know those behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, I think that the State Security Service (SSS) and other security agencies need to invite him to release those names to them,” Paul Ibe said.
“Every option should be on the table to fast-track the safe release of the school children and teachers,” Paul Ibe said.
Sunday Igboho stated he received approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria for a security outfit named Iru Ekun, but the Oyo State Government barred the group from operating and warned that rescue attempts could endanger the abducted individuals.
In the same social media post, Paul Ibe questioned the administration of President Bola Tinubu regarding its response to the separate kidnapping of over 50 schoolchildren in Mussa, Borno State, which occurred on May 15, 2026.
“By the way, who knows those behind the abduction of over 50 school children in Mussa, Borno State on May 15, 2026? Why is Tinubu and his government mute over the Borno abduction? Are those school children not Nigerians? When will the Commander-in-Chief and Consoler-in-Chief send a delegation to Mussa like it did in the case of Oriire? When will Borno and other vulnerable states get their own forest guards? Why wait for a tragedy to occur before the Tinubu government takes action to stem insecurity in our country?” Paul Ibe said.
