Police Arrest Man Over Fake Video in Ogun

OGUN STATE, Nigeria: The Ogun State Police Command arrested Johnson Elleh on Thursday, June 4, 2026, for producing and circulating a fabricated video alleging kidnapping and banditry activities in Ogun State.

Okay News reports that DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the command, announced the arrest in a statement.

Babaseyi said the police scrutinized the viral video and confirmed no kidnapping or banditry occurred within the Owode-Idiroko axis. Elleh confessed during the investigation that he intentionally created the misleading content to generate online engagement and public reaction.

“Findings revealed that the video was false, misleading, and deliberately designed to create fear, panic, and anxiety among members of the public,” Babaseyi said.

Babaseyi said the police command will charge Elleh to court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

The arrest follows the recent detention of a tailor, Qawiyu Oloyede, who fabricated a video of a bandit attack on Sokoto Road in Atan-Ota to gain social media followers.
