ABUJA, NIGERIA – Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide has called on Nigerian authorities to investigate a foreign national, Alex Babir, over alleged hate speech and actions capable of inciting unrest, Okay News reports.
Ahmad raised concerns about what he described as a growing imbalance in how speech-related issues are handled, noting that Nigerians are sometimes sanctioned for expressing their views while certain foreigners appear to operate without scrutiny.
He stressed that his position is not about suppressing free expression, but about ensuring fairness and protecting national stability.
The former aide specifically urged security agencies to look into the activities of Alex Babir, alleging that his public statements could inflame tensions, particularly in already sensitive communities.
He maintained that any individual found promoting division or falsehoods should be properly investigated and, where necessary, sanctioned in accordance with the law.
Bashir’s call was met by some Nigerians online with hostility, where some critics labelled him as a terror sympathiser.
