Makurdi, Nigeria: Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia convened a reconciliation meeting for All Progressives Congress stakeholders and received his 2027 gubernatorial nomination forms on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Okay News reports that Alia invited the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, along with other stakeholders, to resolve internal party differences. The governor received his joint nomination forms from the state chapters of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners and the Benue Motorcycle Owners Association.
“For those of you who belong to APC, I advise that we come together as one entity. I have written to the SGF, Senator George Akume, inviting him, along with members of the National and State Assemblies and other stakeholders of our party, for an internal meeting,” Alia said. He stated the invited officials agreed to attend the meeting scheduled for Sunday.
“We have all agreed that by Sunday, they will come. My delegation will be there, and we will blend and become one. It is very vital for me and for the state,” Alia said. He addressed the upcoming electoral cycle and stated support is required for Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu. “We need to blend. Benue has become APC, and no one must be left behind. What we recorded in 2023 must be doubled in 2027,” he said.
The governor responded to allegations regarding infrastructure distribution, stating his administration is executing road projects worth N76 billion ($50.6 million) in the Benue South Senatorial District. He referenced ongoing work at the Greater Makurdi Water Works, Gboko Water Works, and Katsina-Ala Water Works, alongside efforts to revive the Taraku Oil Mills. “Benue is a rich state, but poor management of resources has been our bane. If you are not a good fund administrator, even if you are given billions, you may achieve nothing. Our problem is not lack of resources; it is misdirection in the past,” Alia said.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Michael Vember, and the State President of the Benue Motorcycle Owners Association, Terfa Aha, presented the forms to the governor. Aha cited improvements in road infrastructure across the state as the motivation for his organization’s support.
