Popular social media celebrity Bobrisky, born Idris Okuneye, has denied allegations that she bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to have money laundering charges against her dropped.

The claims were made in a viral video shared by content creator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Okay.ng reports.

On Tuesday, VeryDarkMan posted a video in which Bobrisky allegedly confessed to paying the EFCC to avoid further legal action.

The accusations prompted the EFCC to invite both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan for questioning as part of an investigation ordered by Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman.

In a statement issued by the anti-graft agency, the EFCC confirmed that a team of investigators had been constituted to thoroughly examine the bribery claims.

“To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery,” the statement read. The EFCC also assured the public that the results of the investigation would be made public.

However, on Wednesday, Bobrisky took to Instagram to refute the claims, calling the viral recording “fake.” The crossdresser insisted that she did not pay any money to the EFCC and had served her full term in prison.

“My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet that I paid EFCC ₦15 million and that I was never in prison,” Bobrisky wrote. “I didn’t pay any EFCC money; it is a very big lie. I served my term in full and I came out. Discard any false information.”

Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5, 2024, after serving a six-month sentence handed down in April for charges related to the abuse of the Nigerian naira.
