By Farouk Mohammed

President-Goodluck-Jonathan

Nigeria has shut its land and sea borders in preparation for its general election set to begin on Saturday, March 28.

The decision was announced on Wednesday, March 25, by the Interior Ministry.

The border closure will take effect from midnight March 25, to midnight Saturday, March 28, the ministry said in a statement.

The move was made by the government in a bid “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections,” a statement released by Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Magaji, read.

The borders were also close to prevent non-Nigerians from participating in the electoral process.
