Borno Police Restrict Vehicular Movement In Maiduguri During Eid el-Kabir

By Farouk Mohammed

The Borno State Police Command has announced the restriction of vehicular movement in Maiduguri until after the Eid prayers on Friday.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Victor Isuku and made available to journalists on Thursday.

According to the statement, the restriction affects everyone except persons on essential duties.

“Muslim faithful are advised to pray at Eid prayer grounds closer to their homes and to ensure they go early enough for security screening to avoid the usual rush when prayers are about to commence thereby compromising the emplaced security screening measures,” the statement read.

The police also advised residents not to carry knives or other dangerous weapons on their bodies either to prayer grounds or relaxation spots as anyone caught will be treated like a “common criminal and prosecuted.”

Parents were also advised to be security-conscious, keep an eye on their children and immediately report any suspicious person, object or movements to the nearest police station.
