Borussia Dortmund Appoints Lucien Favre As New Coach

By Farouk Mohammed

Borussia Dortmund have announced the appointment of former Nice boss Lucien Favre as their new coach.

Favre, who left the Ligue 1 side at the end of the season, has signed a two-year contract at Dortmund.

He succeeds Peter Stoger at Signal Iduna Park after the former Cologne manager’s five-month spell in charge also came to an end after the
campaign.

Favre, 60, has considerable Bundesliga experience, having enjoyed successful spells at Hertha Berlin and Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Favre led Nice to a third-place finish in Ligue 1 in the 2016/17 season, but left the club having finished eighth last season, outside of the Europa League qualification places.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc says “he’s highly regarded by us for the technical qualities that he demonstrated in impressive style many times.”
