By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

World-renowned British professional boxer, Anthony Joshua, who holds multiple heavyweight championship titles, was involved in a serious road accident on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Makun, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Eyewitnesses said the incident took place along a heavily trafficked section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major highway connecting Lagos, Nigeria’s largest commercial city, to Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

The vehicle carrying Joshua, a Lexus Jeep with the registration number KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck. The circumstances surrounding the collision are currently under investigation by local traffic authorities.

Okay News reports that Joshua sustained minor injuries, while tragically, two passengers lost their lives at the scene. The accident occurred just before the Danco Filling Station along the highway.

Social media platforms were immediately flooded with messages of concern and support for Joshua, while local authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Efforts to contact the Traffic Response and Safety Enforcement Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde, for further updates on the incident were unsuccessful, as calls to his office did not go through.

More information regarding the boxer’s condition and the identities of the deceased is expected to be released later.
