Gunmen Kidnap Ex-Minister Adelabu’s Family Members

IBADAN, Nigeria: Unknown gunmen kidnapped the sister and twin children of Nigeria‘s former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Okay News reports that Femi Awogboro, a media aide to the former minister and All Progressives Congress gubernatorial aspirant, confirmed the abduction. Awogboro said, “Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twin (Peter and Paul), were kidnapped this morning (Wednesday) by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan.”

The incident occurred in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area. Detailing the event, Awogboro said, “The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers,”

The Oyo State Police Command received inquiries regarding the abduction on Wednesday. Olayinka Ayanlade, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said, “I can not independently verify this for now, but please hold on.”

This incident follows the abduction of over 40 teachers and students during a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Previously, armed men abducted Wale Oriade, a chieftain of the political party, at his office in the PJ Square Shopping Complex along the Akala Expressway in December 2025 at approximately 7:06 p.m. WAT (GMT+1).

Eyewitnesses to the December 2025 abduction reported that the attackers arrived in a blue Micra vehicle and forcibly seized Oriade. An eyewitness to that incident said, “The nature of the attack and the precision with which it was carried out have caused deep concern within his community,”
