Ogun Police Debunk Bandit Attack Reports, Clarify Arrests

OGUN, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, debunked social media reports alleging bandit attacks on schools and communities within the Ota and Ifo axes of the state, stating that the region remains safe and secure.

The spokesperson for the state command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday. Okay News reports that Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed there has been no bandit attack, kidnapping incident, terrorist activity, or security breach anywhere in the state, including Oluke Community High School, Sango Ota High School, the Fadunsin Area of Ijoko, Atan-Ota, Sango-Ota, Agbado, and Ifo.

Following the circulation of the reports, police operatives from the respective divisions were deployed to all affected locations for verification and sustained confidence-building patrols. The command’s School Protection Squad, in collaboration with divisional police officers, conducted security assessments of all referenced schools and confirmed they were fully operational, with academic activities continuing peacefully throughout the day.

Oluseyi Babaseyi clarified that a recent security operation conducted in Kajola-Ilese, Atan-Ota, led to the arrest of 38 foreign nationals from Côte d’Ivoire, comprising 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35 years. The individuals were found in an apartment following credible intelligence and were unable to produce valid immigration or travel documents during preliminary screening, after which they were handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service.

“The Command notes with concern the needless tension and anxiety caused among residents by the circulation of unverified security information,” Oluseyi Babaseyi said. “The Command deeply sympathizes with members of the public who may have been alarmed by these false reports and reassures them that there is no cause for fear or apprehension, as all affected areas remain calm and under effective security coverage.”

The command urged residents to verify security-related information through official channels and provided emergency contact lines, including the toll-free number 0800 000 9111 and lines 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.
