The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the release of results for the resit examination conducted for candidates affected by a technical fault during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued early Sunday morning by JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, the board disclosed that of the 336,845 candidates who were rescheduled to retake the exam, 21,082 did not show up for the resit. The statement did not provide reasons for this significant absenteeism.
“Of the 336,845 who were eventually scheduled after isolated good sessions of the affected centres were excluded and their previously unverified candidates were added, 21,082 were absent,” the statement read in part.
This announcement follows the initial release of the 2025 UTME results on May 9, which was later marred by revelations of a technical failure affecting thousands of candidates.
The issue came to light after JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed on May 14 that the results of 379,997 candidates across 157 centres in Lagos and the South-East were compromised due to a server malfunction. The glitch, caused by faulty server updates, prevented the proper upload of candidate responses during the first three days of the examination.
During a press conference addressing the crisis, Professor Oloyede was visibly emotional, apologizing to affected candidates and confirming that they would be required to retake the examination.
The board’s swift response to conduct a resit and release the new results aims to restore confidence in the examination process.
