By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

Adrienne Munju, a 41-year-old Canadian woman, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos for importing 74 parcels of Canadian Loud, a potent synthetic cannabis strain weighing 35.20 kilograms, into Nigeria, Okay.ng reports.

Her arrest occurred on October 3, 2024, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport’s Terminal 1 during inbound passenger clearance by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Munju claimed she was recruited online for 10,000 Canadian dollars to traffic the drugs to Lagos, stating financial necessity for her master’s degree program in Canada drove her decision.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu found her guilty on two counts, sentencing her to six years for count one and five years for count two.

The judge offered an alternative N100 million fine, divided evenly between the two counts.
