Ten members of the Boko Haram sect has been sentenced to death by the Chadian government.

The 10 Nigeria-based Islamists were sentenced to death on terrorism charges, judicial sources said on Friday according to Reuters.

Chad’s capital N’Djamena, less than 100 kilometres from the Nigerian border, was hit by a series of suicide bombings in June and July that killed more than 40 people.

The sentencing comes weeks after Chadian President Idriss Deby said Abubakar Shekau isn’t leader of the group anymore.

He also said the group’s new leaders are ready for negotiations for peace.

However days later, Shekau released an audio recording dissing Deby and saying he’s much in charge.

Attacks from the group have become less frequent and less disastrous as they were weeks ago.
