Renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has rejected claims by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), that she was appointed a visiting professor, describing the reports as “false and misleading.”
UNN had earlier announced that Adichie and African Development Bank economist Kevin Urama were appointed as visiting professors, with letters allegedly issued on December 18, 2025. The university said the appointment would strengthen teaching, mentorship, and academic engagement in the arts and humanities.
However, Adichie’s media aide, Omawumi Ogbe, said the writer neither received an appointment letter nor held any discussions with the university regarding a visiting professorship.
While affirming Adichie’s respect for UNN, the statement made clear that no agreement or communication existed, contradicting the university’s announcement and fueling confusion over the reported appointment.
