By Muhammad A. Aliyu

A Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Kano State High Court for the murder of his girlfriend, Ummukhulsum Buhari.

The tragic incident, which occurred in September 2022, sent shockwaves through the Janbulo area of Kano metropolis.

According to reports, Geng-Quangrong stabbed Ummukhulsum to death following an altercation over their relationship.

The court heard that on the fateful evening of September 16, 2022, the accused forcibly entered Ummukhulsum’s residence and fatally stabbed her, claiming she had expressed disinterest in their relationship.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing events, with Ummukhulsum’s mother describing how Geng-Quangrong relentlessly knocked on their door before barging into her daughter’s room and committing the heinous act. The swift intervention of neighbors led to the apprehension of the assailant.

Throughout the trial, Geng-Quangrong maintained that he acted in self-defense, a claim refuted by the prosecution.

After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the Kano State High Court found him guilty of murder.

In delivering the verdict on Tuesday, the court sentenced Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging.
