Court announces date to deliver ruling on Metuh’s alleged fraud case

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

A federal high court in Abuja has announced February 25, 2020, to deliver final ruling on alleged fraud case against former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh.

Okay.ng understands that the judge of the court, Okon Abang, on Tuesday fixed the date to deliver the judgment after lawyers in the suit adopted their final written addresses.

It can be recalled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) in 2016 arraigned Metuh and his company, Destra Investment Ltd, on a seven-count charge of money laundering totaling of N400 million.

Metuh’s lawyer, Abel Ozioko, adopting his final address prayed that the court should discharge his client on the grounds that the allegations against him were not proved.

Counsel representing Destra investment, Tochukwu Onwugbufor, in his address said the prosecution failed to prove the alleged offences.

But the EFCC counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, in reaction to the both addresses said the allegations have been proved “beyond a reasonable doubt” asking the court to pass a guilty verdict on the defendants.

Abang then fixed February 25 to deliver a final ruling on the case.
