Court Orders DSS to Allow Emefiele Access to Lawyers and Family

By Muhammad A. Aliyu

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order demanding the Department of State Services (DSS) and its Director General to grant immediate and unrestricted access to the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to his legal team and family members.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Hamza Muazu on Friday, follows an application filed by J.B. Daudu, Emefiele’s counsel.

Emefiele’s arrest came shortly after his suspension by President Bola Tinubu on Friday evening, which raised concerns and questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the governor’s removal from office.

Seeking to safeguard his rights, Emefiele’s legal representative informed the court that they had sent multiple letters to the DSS, specifically on June 14, requesting access to their client for the purpose of seeking further instructions.

In ruling on the application, Justice Muazu said it is within Emefiele’s constitutional rights to have access to his lawyers and family members.
